Hopes confirmed with science, Geron tackles spinal injury, ACT congratulates

Writing for MIT’s Technology Review, Emily Singer states:

“FDA Lets Human Embryonic Stem Cells Trials Resume
Geron will begin tests of its therapy for spinal cord injury. Advanced Cell Technology hopes to follow with a stem cell treatment for blindness.”

Advanced Cell Technology responded by saying:

“Today’s news from Geron is a very positive development, and we are excited for the company and for the stem cell sector, overall. The indication for which Advanced Cell Technology (ACT) is developing an embryonic stem cell-based treatment, Stargardt’s Disease, is very different from the condition that Geron is targeting, and there is certainly room for multiple therapies to be developed concurrently. The industry needs some wins, and once we receive FDA approval we look forward to joining Geron as one of just two companies to initiate a human clinical trial using human embryonic stem cells (hESCs), possibly later this year.
- William Caldwell, Chairman and CEO, Advanced Cell Technology, Inc.

  • Are you aware of the ways in which the biotechnology industry is developing cures and treatments for life-threatening and debilitation diseases, using embryonic stem cells? (Tell us, we want to hear your opinions on the subject, positive or negative.)
  • Does today’s news from Geron make you more optimistic that treatments and cures based on the embryonic stem cells will actually find their way to clinics and physicians’ offices sooner rather than later?

I congradulate Geron and Advanced Cell for its tireless efforts to bring better treatments and cures to a world in dire need for them. Many people in the world suffer from various illnesses that are treated with medications that prolong their lives, sometimes for the good, and other times for the bad.Its gone on to long.I’am optimistic that these treatments and cures will reach the physicians offices sooner rather than later because the medical worlds destiny has finally come.Hopefully you’ll continue to push this scientific research forward for the betterment of mankind.
